COIMA SGR, celebrated the early completion of construction for the Porta Romana Olympic Village buildings three months ahead of schedule, confirming compliance with the July 2025 deadline for handover to the Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026. Situated as a centerpiece in Milan’s expansive urban regeneration project, the Olympic Village was completed with six buildings, each eight stories high, totaling 30,000 square meters of spatial excellence. This announcement was made at a ceremonious Italian flag-raising event attended by key figures from Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 and COIMA SGR. The celebration led by Valentina Marchei and attended by various dignitaries marked significant progress, as there will be continued work on facades, interiors, and public spaces complementing the Village. Additionally, restoration of two historic buildings to preserve the local architectural character is underway, and future plans include the transformation of the Village into Italy’s largest Social Residential Housing student residence with 1,700 beds post-Olympics. From inception, the Village was crafted to ensure post-games utility by incorporating adaptable physical spaces and minimizing environmental impact, thus reinforcing the project’s sustainability commitment. Complementary to the Village development, the public spaces designed by Michel Desvigne with an overarching master plan by Outcomist, aim to create a harmonious community-friendly environment. Financial backing including a 250 million Sustainability-linked Loan led by Intesa Sanpaolo will assist COIMA SGR and its partners, Covivio and Prada Holding, to reach their ESG targets in this urban regeneration initiative. Construction began in January 2023 with CEV SpA, Grassi e Crespi Srl, and Milani SpA at the helm, upholding coordination amongst various government ministries and the FS Italiane Group.
