James Bracken, the former CEO of Fortitude Re, has been appointed as the chief financial officer (CFO) of Zurich North America, effective July 1. He succeeds Peter Hirs, who will be returning to Zurich Insurance Group in Switzerland as the group head of Mergers & Acquisitions. Bracken will now oversee various financial functions including actuarial, financial accounting and reporting, corporate tax, treasury, planning, and performance management. Bracken, with over 25 years of experience in financial services, notably built a Bermuda-based run-off reinsurance company with $75 billion in assets during his tenure at Fortitude Re. He also led M&A transactions and managed a full carve-out from AIG, culminating in the sale of Fortitude Re to an investor consortium. Prior to Fortitude Re, he was the CFO at AIG General Insurance.
